Last week the government of Quebec has granted midwives the right to assist women wishing to give birth in their home. This is the result of many years work and a cause of great celebration for the midvives and future mothers.
The next step is for women in Quebec to have the right to give birth in hospital assisted by a midwife.
“We want women to have the choice to give birth where they wish, with the possibility to be assisted by a midwife, be it at home, in a hospital, or in a birth center.” wishes Christine Roy one of the local midwives

This includes pregnancy, birth and postnatal support (doulas/birth companions, independent midwife) counselling, hypnobirth, and a range of complementary therapies for the pregnant/new mother and baby.
