News:

Last week the government of Quebec has granted midwives the right to assist women wishing to give birth in their home. This is the result of many years work and a cause of great celebration for the midvives and future mothers.
The next step is for women in Quebec to have the right to give birth in hospital assisted by a midwife.
“We want women to have the choice to give birth where they wish, with the possibility to be assisted by a midwife, be it at home, in a hospital, or in a birth center.”
wishes Christine Roy one of the local midwives

Our philosophy

“Normal birth”, ecstatic birth, medicalised birth, natural birth…each birth brings with it a unique experience for the child, the parents and all involved.
Whilst we often cannot control or predict the twists and turns of the River of Birth, the way we engage with the journey can determine our experience of it.

The seed of our experience of giving Birth was probably planted in our own pregnancy and birth many years ago. That seed has grown over our lifetime bringing with it its unique imprinted patterns as well as the potential for transformation.

Each time we give birth is an opportunity for our own rebirth, for going beyond the limited patterns of our imprinting and accessing more of our potential.

During pregnancy, Woman is a sacred vessel and Man a shield and a guardian. But pregnancy is also a time of preparation, in body, mind and Spirit. A time to gather inner and outer resources, to clear the way, and become ready to take part in the powerful rite of passage of Birth.

Traditional societies have always prepared their people carefully and thoroughly before any rite of passage.
The experience of birth and the postnatal period has long term implications not only on the well being of the mother, baby and family but also on the whole society. It feels important in these times of high intervention births, postnatal depression and social challenges for women/couples to receive the tools and support to prepare their birthing and parenting journey well.
